Good Luck, Solomon Snell!

Indonesia, February 5th 2013

Dear Solomon Snell, Sir..

I wrote this letter as a condolence to you and your … less fortunate life. If I could do something to help you, I assure you I would like to help you at my fullest. I know you don’t even know who I am, and I know we live in two very different dimensions. I heard your name and your life story from a singer from my world named Duncan Sheik and how he tells, through his song titled “The Tale of Solomon Snell”, a story of a man who really, really unlucky enough it took the man’s life.

I really wish that your life was completely different. I wish that you were a rich guy with an enormous amount of confident that you didn’t have to pay three armed men to travel with you.. three armed men who turned out they just wanna robbed you upon your arrival.

I also wish that your fiancé really just wanted to visit her handsome cousin, a real cousin that lived in Charlotte, and you don’t have to worry about trust.. her trust. You ended up marrying her and have beautiful children.

I wish that you didn’t get a yellow fever down Charleston way. I also hope that the people in that town didn’t dug a grave for you and buried you alive, cause they thought you were dead. I also hope that the man you paid to hear the bell that attached to your finger as the sign that you were still alive down in your grave, didn’t get drunk and he listened to the sound of the bell, and you were saved just at the right timing.

But things didn’t turn out what I wish and all I can do now is to send you lots of love and pray, hoping that you are happy up there, you got Lady Luck stuck on you, and people will always remember your name.

Thank you for teaching me that too much trust is a road to hell, and made me realize that I’m not the most unfortunate man on Earth, no heart feeling of course.

Cheers,

Andris Wisatha
